How Therapists Can Make Their Online Course Easy to Sell
May 05, 2025You Already Have a Brand—Here’s How to Make It Resonate
Some therapists I talk to think branding is for someone else.
“It’s not my thing,” they say. Or, “I just want to help people.”
But here’s the truth: If you’re sharing your work online—even just a little—you already have a brand. The real question is: does it resonate?
In a recent conversation with Danny Iny, we explored the idea of “resonant identity.” It’s not about logos or fonts. It’s about what people know about you without you having to say it.
And for those of us building online courses or stepping into a new kind of work, that matters more than ever.
Why Resonant Identity Changes Everything
Danny explained that every purchase we make tells a story. About who we are. About what matters to us.
Think about it. Buying earrings from Tiffany signals something very different than buying them from Walmart—even if the materials are the same.
That difference? It’s brand.
And the same is true for your course, your offer, your voice. People are buying more than just knowledge. They’re choosing who they want to learn from.
So the question becomes:
What does your current presence say—without you saying anything?
You Don’t Need Fancy—You Need Honest
One of the biggest takeaways from our conversation was this:
“Brand is the stuff people know without you saying it.”
That stuck with me.
Because it means you don’t need to be loud or flashy. You just need to be clear.
Clear about who you are. Clear about who you help. Clear about the experience you create.
Your “resonant identity” isn’t something you tack on later. It’s already being shaped by how you show up—in your emails, your course layout, even the kind of pen you give your workshop attendees (ask Danny about that one!).
So, How Do You Build a Resonant Identity?
This isn’t about perfection. It’s about intention.
Here are three small steps to start:
- Ask yourself what you want people to feel when they interact with your work. Safe? Seen? Challenged? Supported?
- Choose one way to reflect that value in something you’re already doing—like your onboarding email, your course intro video, or your Zoom setup.
- Look for symbolic touches that match your heart. Maybe it’s handwritten notes. Maybe it’s the tone of your welcome message. Maybe it’s the why behind your method.
These aren’t tricks. They’re reminders. Anchors. Ways to quietly say, “This is who I am, and this is what you can expect from me.”
Relatable and Aspirational
Danny shared a beautiful phrase that sums up what we’re really aiming for:
“You’re just like me—and you’re who I want to be when I grow up.”
That’s the sweet spot.
When people see themselves in you and see where they could go with your help, you’ve struck something powerful. And you didn’t need a perfect brand package to do it.
Just a resonant identity.
A Gentle Next Step
You don’t need to rebrand your whole practice this week. But maybe this is your invitation to pause and ask:
What do people already know about me without me saying a word?
And if that answer doesn’t match what you want them to feel—then this is your faithful first step.
Let your next message, your next post, or your next course module reflect more of who you truly are.
That’s branding worth trusting.
Course Selling for Therapists: You Don’t Need to Be Perfect, Just Start Moving
If you’re feeling stuck, it doesn’t mean you’re broken. It usually just means a lever needs adjusting.
You already have the skills. You already have the mission.
Your next step might be to clarify your offer so brightly that your ideal client sees it and says, "That's exactly what I’ve been looking for."
You don’t have to launch a masterpiece.
Just start building the boat.
