Why Your Offer Feels Hard to Sell (And How to Make It Effortless)
Apr 27, 2025Some days, building your course or online offer feels like trying to row a boat with a broken paddle. You know you’re called to teach. You know your knowledge can help people. But the movement is slow... and sometimes, it feels like you’re the only one rowing.
If you’ve ever thought, “I know I can help, so why does this feel so hard?” — you’re not alone.
In a recent conversation with course creator and mentor Danny Iny, we talked about one of the biggest (and most overlooked) reasons: your offer might not be obvious enough.
Let’s unpack that — and more importantly, let's talk about how you can fix it without burning out.
The Danger of Compromising Your Offer
Danny shared a story that hit home.
Every morning, he used to stop at Starbucks for a tea during his walk. But here’s the thing: he didn’t really want what they had. They didn’t carry the tea he loved or the milk he preferred.
He ordered something close enough... until one day, he realized he was settling. He stopped going.
When we compromise too much in what we offer our audience—giving them “almost what they want” instead of exactly what they crave—they eventually drift away.
Not because they’re ungrateful. But because it’s human nature to seek out what fits us best.
The hard truth?
A good-enough offer is easy to walk away from.
An obvious offer is magnetic.
Three Levers That Make Selling Feel Natural
In the book Effortless, Danny breaks it down even further:
Growing your reach and impact isn’t about hustling harder. It’s about pulling three simple levers:
- The Obvious Offer: Are you giving people exactly what they want — or are they compromising to work with you?
- The Resonant Identity: Are you the kind of person your audience wants to learn from?
- The Intuitive Path: Is the buying experience smooth and simple — or clunky and confusing?
If even one of these is out of alignment, growth feels like rowing against the current.
But when they work together, things begin to feel (yes) effortless.
How to Make Your Offer Shine: Think "11-Star Experience"
One of my favorite exercises, Danny shared is the "11-Star Experience."
The idea is simple: Imagine what an absolutely over-the-top, unforgettable version of your offer would look like.
Not just good... jaw-droppingly great.
- A 5-star therapist course might give students worksheets and videos.
- An 11-star experience might include personalized check-ins, a live retreat, and lifetime mentorship.
You don’t have to deliver helicopters and fireworks.
The goal is to stretch your imagination far enough that when you scale it back, even your "normal" offer feels extraordinary.
Question to ask yourself:
"Where am I giving people 'good enough' — and where could I surprise them with something that feels exactly right?"
Small Steps to a Stronger Offer
You don’t have to overhaul everything overnight. Start with this:
- List 5 ways you could make your offer feel easier, clearer, or more joyful for your clients.
- Pick one that’s low-cost and high-impact.
- Implement it this week, even if it’s a small tweak.
Intentional steps, even small ones, build momentum you can’t always see right away.
You’re Closer Than You Think
If you’re feeling stuck, it doesn’t mean you’re broken. It usually just means a lever needs adjusting.
You already have the skills. You already have the mission.
Your next step might just be clarifying your offer so brightly that your ideal client sees it and says, "That's exactly what I’ve been looking for."
You don’t have to launch a masterpiece.
Just start building the boat.
