Every Customer Is on a Journey

What if there was a way of thinking that takes the pressure off selling and instead turns up the pressure on helping and supporting the customer? The sales journey is an excellent metaphor for the hero’s journey. Every seller can be a hero’s guide, helping potential buyers navigate through the process of making a purchase. Just as a hero needs guidance on their quest, buyers need a knowledgeable guide to help them make the best decisions. By understanding the customer’s needs and offering helpful advice, the seller can be a beacon of light, guiding the customer to their ideal purchase.

What is the call to adventure?

The call to adventure is an essential part of the hero’s journey. It is the moment when the hero is presented with a challenge, goal, or quest that they must embark upon. The hero has a choice to make, do they get off the couch or do they watch another episode on Netflix?

The call to adventure is usually unexpected and often comes from an outside source, such as a mentor or magical figure. It is the beginning of the hero’s transformation as they leave their familiar world and enter a new one.

Why do people resist the call to adventure?

Adventurers often resist the call to action at first because they are scared of the unknown. How many nights have you thought about starting something new only to be beaten down by self-sabotaging thoughts? That is unfortunately all too common. Because the outcome is uncertain and you might be unsure of how things will turn out, it is very difficult to leave what we think is security.

Adventures can be intimidating, and it can take a lot of bravery and courage to take the plunge. However, sometimes the greatest rewards come from taking the biggest risks. Adventures can be a great way to challenge oneself and grow as a person. Taking a leap of faith and pushing through the fear can open up a world of possibility and adventure, and it can be incredibly rewarding.

How can you position yourself as a guide to help the hero?

Leaving on an adventure is often accompanied by a sense of excitement and anticipation as the hero begins their journey. It is a significant moment in the hero’s journey and sets the stage for the challenges that await them.  A guide can help an adventurer cross the threshold into the unknown by providing clear direction, emotional support, and knowledge of the area. They can offer advice on the best routes to take and potential hazards to avoid. They can also provide a sense of security, as they have likely been through the crossing before and can lead the way. Additionally, they can offer encouragement and provide a sense of companionship and camaraderie, which can help ease the fear of the unknown.

Position yourself as the guide and your products and services as the supports for your customers' hero's journey to help them get started. You do this by talking about them on your web page, in your email messages, and in your blogs. You are not the hero of their story. Position them as the hero and offer your support as they grow and transform.
