Why People Hesitate to Launch Online Courses

Why people hesitate to make an online course to share their knowledge

Hello friends! Today, I'm thrilled to discuss a topic that many of us can relate to: why people hesitate to launch their own online courses. I'm James Marland, and my wonderful wife, Lorinda, will join me. We'll explore the common barriers that prevent talented individuals from sharing their knowledge with the world.

Overcoming Self-Doubt in Launching a Course

Lorinda, who trains and develops new hires at a virtual assistant company, shared her hesitation about creating an online course. She mentioned that she doesn't see herself as a "big grand teacher" and wonders, "Who would want to listen to me?" This sentiment is all too common. Many people undervalue their expertise and doubt their ability to teach others. As the saying goes, "The only thing we have to fear is fear itself." Courage and confidence are key to overcoming this initial hurdle.

Embracing Your Expertise to Share with Others

Lorinda has over 20 years of experience in her field. Despite her wealth of knowledge, she struggles with the imposter syndrome—feeling that she might not be polished enough or seen as an expert. This is a significant barrier for many. Remember, you don't have to be perfect. It's your unique experiences and insights that make you valuable. Think of Yoda from Star Wars, "Do or do not, there is no try." Embrace your expertise and take that first step.

Navigating Technology and Organization

Another common barrier is the technology involved in creating an online course. Lorinda mentioned the challenges of learning new programs, organizing content, and making it user-friendly. This can feel overwhelming, but tools like ChatGPT and Canva can simplify the process. As I always say, “Use the tools at your disposal to create something amazing.”

Finding Your Unique Angle

Standing out in a crowded market is another challenge. Lorinda wondered how to make her course distinguishable from others. The key is to highlight what makes you unique. For Lorinda, it's her ability to build long-term client relationships and handle customer needs with exceptional service. Focus on what you do best and market that strength. As Dumbledore from Harry Potter said, "It is our choices that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities."

Taking the Leap

To anyone hesitating to create an online course, remember that your mission and passion are valuable. By sharing your knowledge, you not only create a potential source of passive income but also help others grow. Whether you're considering it as a side hustle or a full-time endeavor, the first step is to believe in your ability to make a difference.

In conclusion, launching an online course requires courage, confidence, and a willingness to learn. Don’t let self-doubt, technology, or the fear of standing out hold you back. Embrace your mission, harness your passion, and start creating. As I always say, "Put your mission in motion."

Thank you for joining us, and a special thanks to Lorinda for sharing her insights. Until next time, keep believing in yourself and your ability to create something extraordinary.
