Transcription5 Powerful Reasons to Niche Your Online Course Business James Marland: Hello, this is James from Course Creation Studio, and I'm gonna be talking today about five powerful reasons to niche. What is a niche? You might say? A niche is just another way of saying a market segment or a customer segmentation. If you have a broad group, let's say parents, you can niche that into parents of teenagers, parents of toddlers, parents of adult children, you know all those segments or are niches, and you can even get even deeper in. Such as parents of teenagers in track, parents of teenagers in basketball, parents of teenagers in football. , you have many different ways of nicheing. People also age nicheing through income, location, geographic location, stage of life. There's lots of different ways to niche down an audience to get to your preferred audience. So what are some of the five powerful reasons to niche your online course offering? This presentation comes from. My notes from a webinar. It the Pumpkin Plan webinar. It was Pumpkin Plan Your Business and Donna Leins pronunciation, not my strong point laid out a powerful case for nicheing your audience. Before we can advance, we do have to address that there are fears in limiting beliefs holding us back. There are things that we think, things we assume. About our business, about our customers, that keep us from identifying who our dream clients are, who our true clients are. So here's some of the fears that might be holding people back. One, you might think like a niche business is boring. A niche business is repetitive. Like I just can't do the same things over and over. Another one is you're afraid of limiting your potential. What, why should I limit myself to serving a narrow niche of people when my brand is good for everyone? You also might think my business is just different. Nicheing down might be good for other people. But I'm just different. My business is different, my clientele's different. I can't niche. I'm different. Some people might say I like to get different things done. I just am a master of all these different things and I, I can't limit myself to doing the same thing over and over again. I have to do different things. Another fear is my business is too small. I need every client I can get. And so if I niche down my, the client that's gonna save my business, the client's that's going to be the income producer is gonna be gone, and I'm gonna miss out on them. All clients are different. One of the ti one for an established business or a business that's bo going on for a while, one of the fears is I can't, I just can't choose one. All my clients are different. I love them all. How can I choose my favorite client out of all the clients that I have? And then it's hard to say no, if you limit yourself to a certain subset of. That means you're gonna have to say no to some clients, that some clients will have to fall outside of your niche. And it's really hard when for a small business to see that money and see it not come into our office. So why should somebody niche then if there's all those fears? There's five powerful reasons. To get over niche phobia, and spec specify a specific dream customer powerful reason number one is you wanna become and be seen as an expert. A generalist never gets to the expert level. If you are somebody who does all the things and you try to be the one stop solution for every. you're never gonna reach that expert level where people come to you because of what you know, and you need to become an expert because you lack time. What does that mean, James? What do you mean I lack time and I have to become an expert? You can't know every single step in all the processes for you, for your clients, for example. I am running a course creation business, and I am becoming an expert in Kajabi and a little bit in Teachable, but there's another method people use, which is WordPress. People can use WordPress and one of their plugins to become to create courses. I just don't know WordPress. I don't know how to install all the plugins for that. So I, but I lack the time. I'm learning Kajabi. I'm learning teachable. I'm learning how to build a webpage in their systems, not in the WordPress. I can't be an expert in everything. I'm lacking the time. So I need to become an expert in what people will come to me for, not, for some of those other things, I, it would be better for me to say no. It would take me more time to become even a generalist in WordPress. I also need to become an expert because I lack experience. That's a, that's another thing. I am lacking experience, for example, in the WordPress site, but that doesn't mean I can't become an expert in the other thing. And there just might be a desire. WordPress is more complicated. There's more choices. There's more fi. Bits and controls. Yes, you can learn it and people have learned and made wonderful WordPress sites, but the amount of time it took to become an expert in that is more than I want to spend. And honestly, I don't have a desire to become an expert in every area. Of in every webpage building software, people love Wix. I'm not gonna, I don't think I'm gonna become an expert in Wix, not in the next year or two anyways. I just don't have the time. I don't have the desire. And along with the things you have to learn, there are some clients that are gonna fall outside your dream client persona, your dream client avatar. You don't, you personally don't wanna spend time with everyone. You personally have a subset of people that energize you, and you want to be the expert for those people and you have a desire to limit the people who you don't want to spend a lot of time with. When you're the expert, your ideal client, your ideal. We'll seek you out. People seek out experts. That's why we go to expert doctors or expert business people, expert people in webpage design, expert mark marketers. We go to the experts and your ideal client will seek you out. and you will gain more attention. The gen, the generalists, and the thing that we really want is experts get paid more, so it's easier to market when you're an expert and you get, you also get paid more. The next powerful reason is for nicheing is it eliminates the competition. What do we mean by eliminating the competition? When you're an expert, when you've niche down, you don't look like your competition. You look different. You stand out. Your market is not the general people. Your market is niched. Your market looks very different than the people who are trying to reach everyone. You stop looking like them. You stop sounding like them. Your top clients care about what you care about, and your clients will not see you as a commodity, just like another brand of toothpaste. For me toothpaste and cereal and some other things at the grocery stores, they're just commodities. I just buy what's on sale. I just whatever is. However, if you went car shopping and you were really into cars, you would want a bmw, you'd want a high performance car, by the way. I like cars that run, so I'm a Honda Accord type of person. There's different levels. People expect different things at different levels. And the luxury cars, the BMWs of the world, they aren't, they do not market to me. I'm not even in their. They don't use the same language I use. They don't have the same targeting emphasis. They target the people who want that result, who want that product. And you can do the same thing too with your online course. And you can do the same thing too. And you can do the same thing too with your online course. along with nicheing nicheing unlocks, nicheing, unlocks powerful messaging. How do you, how well you're able to create a different type of message when you niche down. It's not the general language for the masses. It's the language that connects with your core audience. They get you, you get them. You can use language to demonstrate that you understand what they're going through, you know what they're going through. You understand their specific problems, their specific dreams, and then you can brand and connect with that language. And when they read your copy, when they read your homepage or your about page, they're. Oh. This person gets me. They are speaking my language. They know what I'm going through, and it's easier to attract with this branding, with this message, it's easier to attract your ideal client, your dream client, and repel your nightmare clients. Two more reasons left. One is you stop reinventing the wheel. How often do you have to start and stop and retool? Your business for the non-ideal client, you stop reinventing the world, re reinventing the wheel. This gives you the ability to be efficient with your processes. You can build systems that you can scale. Standard operating procedures, are you able to create standard operating procedures? If you're not niche and you're serving the wide variety of audience and you're trying to develop individual products for all of them, you can't scale at all. You're not efficient you're high. Just high customization, which means the scalability is very difficult if you're trying to serve clients with all the different needs. You're trying to reinvent the wheel, you're trying to reinvent your product for each client. Which is impossible to reproduce. The niche allows you to create that system where you can deliver the result, the consistent, efficient, awesome result that they want over and over again with consistency. And finally, a niche leads to lower costs when you can do the same thing over and over again. Your costs are predictable. And therefore you have higher prices or higher profits, low having a niche that you don't have to customize. Think of all the time you spend customizing contracts or customizing services if you just served the people who want your dream client. Who wants your core result. You're gonna cut out all that time, you're gonna be able to institute systems and standard operating procedures that allow you to be efficient, that allow you to reduce their costs, that allow you to save time, sometimes even put your course on autopilot, or all you're doing is some social media posts or your newsletter and blog content, and now people find you they see what you have, they buy it, and then they get the result. All. On automatic because you have a system in place that delivers a specific product to them. Specifically an online video course. I'd love to help you make your online video course if you're an expert in the helping field. If you're an expert in the people helping field or the therapy world. Give me a call or send me an email. Turn your experience into automatic income course creation studio.com and I have some free guides for you. The first one. Which is the first step of the course is validate your topic. Like what do you really, what can you do and what can you teach? And then how do you find out if that's gonna sell? How do you find out if that is good for your core audience, if that's even a problem that they have? You might be good at something, but if nobody's looking. It might be too niche, it might be too small of an audience, and so I show you the tools on how to research it on Google, how to research it with your friends, and how to research it in on Amazon with big data and big marketers to help you get your core idea. So come to the site, sign up for the newsletter. You get a couple free gifts for doing that, and one of that is will my course sell. My name's James Marlin from Course Creation Studio. Thanks for joining me. We'll see you next time.
